Atlanta
Braves - The Atlanta, Georgia based Major League Baseball team
is amongst the five prominent teams of the National League’s
Eastern Division. Atlanta Braves logo depicts an American
weapon called tomhawk and the embossed title of the
“Braves”.
History
Of Atlanta Braves
The
team came into existence in 1871 at Boston, Massachusetts with
the name of National Association club and acquired licensed
membership of National League in 1876.
This
club frequently kept changing its name. Known as Boston Red
Stockings during 1876-1882 the club was renamed to Boston
Beaneaters during 1883-1906, Boston Doves during 1907-1908,
Boston Pilgrims during 1909-1911, Boston Braves during
1912-1935 & 1941-1952, Boston Bees during 1936-1940 and
Milwaukee Braves during 1953-1965. Finally, in 1966 they
adopted the name Atlanta Braves.

They
have played their first game on April 22, 1876 as Boston Red
Stockings. Before 1966, they grabbed two World Championships
in 1914 & 1957 and twelve Pennants with their other names.
On April 12, 1966 they have played their first game as Atlanta
Braves against Pirates, which they won. In 1969, Braves got
their first Division title. Due to insufficient efforts the
team wasn’t able to conquer even a single league title
during 1970s and in 1980s also they won only one Division.
The
grand recovery of the team is a history in itself, as they
made a stunning entry to the World Series in 1990. The
outstanding performance of the Braves won the team several
titles during the time period of 1990s & 2000s. The grand
history of the Braves includes World Championship in 1995
& five Pennants in 1991-92, 1995-96 and 1999. An
uninterrupted 14-division title victory from 1991-2004 &
13 post-season appearances from 1991-1993 & 1995-2004
contributed to the magnificence of the great history of
Braves.
Some
of the Hall of Famers of the Braves are Orlando Cepeda, Eddie
Mathews, Hank Aaron & Phil Niekro whereas some of the
retired numbers of the Braves were Dale Murphy#3, Phil Niekro
#35, Eddie Mathews #41 and Warren Spahn #21.
Stadium
History Of Atlanta Braves
South
End Grounds was the first stadium for the Atlanta Braves then
known as Boston Red Stockings. They played there between 1876
and 1894. The Atlanta Braves then moved to the South End
Grounds II during the years 1894-1914, Braves Field during the
years 1915 to 1952, and Milwaukee County Stadium during 1953
to 1965.
The
country Fulton Stadium was
constructed & officially inaugurated in 1966 for baseball
season. The Atlanta Crackers- Atlanta’s International League
team used to play there, before the Braves decided to shift to
the Fulton Stadium in 1966. The Atlanta Braves played their
first game at Fulton Stadium on April 12, 1966. The greatest
moment for the Braves at the
Fulton stadium was on April 8, 1974 when Hank Aaron exceeded
Babe Ruth’s record of 714 by a 715 homerun. The last time
that a baseball tournament was played at the Atlanta Fulton
Country Stadium was 1996.
After
the 1996 season the Braves shifted to Turner Field stadium and
are still there. Inaugurated on March 29, 1997, Turner Field
stadium has the capacity of holding 50,000 fans. Turner Field,
which is the present stadium of Atlanta Braves, took $235
millions for the construction.
