is amongst the five most prominent teams of the American
League’s Eastern Division. The logo of the team depicts a

History
of Florida Marlins
Florida
Marlins was formed in 1993 as part of the expansion plan of
National League. It was April 5,1993 that the team played
their first game under the supervision of manager Rene
Lachemann. Rene Lachemann had the experience of managing teams
like Milwaukee Brewers and Seattle Mariners.
In
their first year, the Marlins team could manage second last
position with New York Mets being at the last slot. John Boles
substituted Lachemann for 1996 season, as Marlins landed at
the last position in 1994 & get 4rth place in 1995.
Manager
Jim Leyland made it possible for the Florida Marlins to grab
the wild card in 1997, as the team finished on 92-70. In the
National League Division Series, the Marlins recorded a
stunning victory over San Francisco Giants by 3-0 and then the
team defeated the Atlanta Braves in the National League
Championship Series by 4-2.
The
team flopped to 54-108 during the year 1998 making a record
fall from the peak position of World Champs to losing above
100 games in the same season. The downfall of Marlins resulted
in the resignation of manager Leyland and the club was also
sold off to an industrialist John Henry in the off-season.
Regardless
of the lesser attendance issues, the rising stars of Marlins
namely Luis Castillo, Mike Lowell and A.J. Burnett helped the
team regain its reputation. For three successive years between
2000 and 2002, the outstanding performance offered Marlins
more than 75 victories.
September
26, 2003 brought them the National League Wild Card when they
defeated the New York Mets by 4-3, finishing with an overall
record of 91-71. It was the second occasion when Florida
Marlins won a wild card. Year 2003 also made them the World
Champions once again.
The
adversities of the Marlins returned once again as the team
failed to bring Ivan Rodriguez back in to the team. Jeffrey
Loria, the owner of the club was yearning for finances for a
new stadium.
Despite
the exclusion of prominent players such as Juan Encarnacion,
Derek Lee and Ivan Rodriguez, Marlins remains one of the
favorites. The team ended at 3rd slot in 2004
season.
Carl
Barger #5 was the only player who was retired from the
Marlins.
