As a tribute
to the Baltimore state bird, Orioles was the name adopted by
the old National League and the rest of the organized state
league teams. Rooted in Baltimore, Maryland, the Baltimore
Orioles play in Major League Baseball and is one of the five
teams in the Eastern Division of the American League.
History of Baltimore Orioles
An
old name for the Baltimore Orioles was Milwaukee Brewers from
1894-1901, followed by St Louis Browns till the fag end of the
1953 season and finally the present day Baltimore Orioles in
reference to the black and orange birds. Baltimore Orioles
played their first game on April 13, 1954 as Milwaukee
Brewers. Before 1954, the Baltimore Orioles then known
as St Louis Brown have only captured the American League
pennants in 1944. They
had not win any World Championships or Divisions and had only
1 World Series appearance.
After
changing their name to Baltimore Orioles in 1954, in the
initial 11 years, they were more famous in the stands than on
the field. However 1966 was the turning point, after that they
have won six American League pennants in 1966, 1969, 1970,
1971, 1979 and 1983. Eight Division titles in 1969, 1970,
1971, 1973, 1974, 1979, 1983 and 1997 also ensued. And the
biggest booty of them all, the World Series went to the
Baltimore Orioles thrice in 1966, 1970 and 1983.
Star names that have been thrown up by
the Baltimore Orioles into the Baseball Hall of Fame includes
George Kell, Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Branch Rickey, Earl
Weaver, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Robin Roberts and
Luis Aparicio. Popularity wise, Cal Ripken Jr. is the likely
bet, noted for bettering Lou Gehrig’s non-stop run and
grabbed two MVP awards for Baltimore.
Among the most
outstanding players for whom the Baltimore Orioles have
retired numbers are #4 Earl Weaver, #8 Cal Ripken Jr., #5
Brooks Robinson, #20 Frank Robinson, #22 Jim Palmer, #33 Eddie
Murray and finally the #42 that has been retired across

Stadium History of Baltimore Orioles
The Oakland Athletics team first started playing on the Lloyd Street
Grounds as Milwaukee Brewers, where they played for 1 year.
Then they move to Sportsmen's Park for the next 52 years. The
Baltimore Orioles played their first Major League Baseball
game at Memorial Stadium on April 13, 1954. Some exceptional
teams and players have considered Memorial Stadium as there
home in the days of its existence. Expansion and changes have
been plenty from seating capacity to new dugouts and
replacement of the original “Gunther” scoreboard with a
digital one. A new ballpark for the Orioles in downtown
Baltimore was announced in 1988 and they took their final bow
at Memorial Stadium on October 6, 1991 taking on the Detroit
Tigers.
In the year
1992, the Baltimore Orioles moved into Oriole Park in Camden
Yards that can accommodate around 49,000 seats. The course of
Orioles baseball history was altered with the introduction of
Camden Yards to the world as the leading baseball ballpark.
Beyond the centerfields of the Camden Yards ballpark there was
also a picnic area along with a small park like area with
beautiful trees. It also has luxury suites as well.
As
great baseball teams of the past go, the Baltimore Orioles was
a class apart.
